Pit & Peak Vlog!

I swore after the mental anguish and embarrassment that I went through the first time I did a vlog
that I would never do one again.
But alas, here I am again. (I've convinced myself that my dorky-ness is 85% just in my head now)
Last time, I made the video in my room, with the phone propped up against a leaning tower of pillows.
I tried the same tactic this time and it wasn't working.
So I was getting frustrated and really embarrassed at how stupid I looked so close up and cropped in my 5th video attempt when the husband came in and asked me why my face was so red.
So, finally I just let him hold the dang camera phone.
So now he, along with who ever sees this,
can see me in all my dork, weird facial expressions and googly-eyed glory.

My Pit and Peak Link Up Vlog Numero Dos:

And no, that's no a prison costume.
It's actually a pretty cute pull over shirt but in the video, I look like I am pleading the fifth or something.

And yes, I put on more concealer under my eyes and little bit of gloss before I started the video.

Because I am a hot mess anytime after 7:30 p.m. and I don't want to scare anyone.

My Uber Cute Preggo Sister

I've introduced you guys to my sister before, here, when she showed off her super cool house and showed a Wall Art DIY and here, when she threw a gender reveal  party! I showed her off because she's wonderfully creative, pretty stylish and super sweet, all without trying very hard. Everything cool she does, she just seems to "whip up."
(Please note: We didn't really become friends until after she left for college. She told everyone in high school we were just cousins. I forgive her and I hope she forgives me for all the crap I did).

Well, you know what is cuter than a naturally artsy and creative woman?
A PREGNANT naturally artsy and creative woman.

See what I mean?
And she leaves pics like this on my Facebook wall:

Because those are the cutest shoes ever.
And yes, that's pink in her hair.

Sigh. I didn't get the cool girl gene. She stole it from me. I want a redo.

Now I have to show you the cuteness that is Miss Lucy's nursery.

(one of these days I promise to clean and organize MY kids' room and show them off as well.)
Ok, but seriously, that probably won't happen.

To see more of Jessica's nursery for her baby girl, follow her on Pinterest.
She's also a professional photographer and has really great boards with clothing inspiration for photo shoots (coordinating outfits, anyone?) and great ideas for wedding and engagement sessions!

I love her so much, and I bet you would too! :)

Why I Blog

So I have had this "draft" in my post line up for.ever.
Just sitting there, waving at me, like "helllo friend, remember when you titled me and left me hanging?"

So here I am, revisiting the post, that was sitting there for months with only the title

"Why I Blog" written.

So I wrote. And then I thought, well this is a lot of text.

So I broke it up some great words in pictures.

Why do I blog? Because I need a reminder of who I am.
 I get lost sometimes.
I work, I wife, I mother, I run errands, I cook, I clean and up until last
July, I did that all without ever nurturing my brain, my mind or my creativity.
But when I started my blog, it was like brain food. Link ups with questions, telling people about myself, giving my opinion, it was all a wake up call to what was missing: my creativity and my personality!

I have to remind myself a lot about how it felt to start my blog and all those great feelings about getting my thoughts out of my brain and in front of me. Remembering that keeps me on the road of doing it for me, which in turn, gives back because the friends  I meet are all genuine friends.

I blog because even if I am messing up or failing, I can probably still find support and encouragement by sharing my feelings and being honest.

But sometimes sharing your feelings and being a dork out there for all to read is scary.
You should have felt my heart rate the night I posted my vlog.

Sometimes I get that feeling from back in the day when you walked into the cafeteria in middle school, when you couldn't stop adjusting your clothes or crossing your arms in front of chest. Insecurity with a capital "I hope no one is watching me but I'd be happy if they were, I think..."

I've even deleted some posts I wrote that were really "Debbie Downer-ish" because I didn't want people to think I was a complainer. But I AM a complainer, and if I would have left them up, I could have probably bonded with someone over our common miseries.

I blog because I need to test myself not to be scared anymore.
I need to learn how to write what I feel and own it.

And what if....what if by chance there are more women out there who have the same feelings I do, what if I have the opportunity to connect over motherhood, funnily inappropriate memes, marriage rants, anxiety, depression, uncertainty? Those all are things that are exponentially better when shared with another person.

I want to challenge myself to write with good intent, not for attention.

I blog because there are people out there, potential friends, that I may never know but with whom I can connect with based on our common interest and shared humor.

I live in the middle of no where. Now why would I give up that chance to know people thousands of miles a way but who still can make me laugh, think and find new things to love?

The only reason why I wouldn't blog is because there are people who blog for attention or to spread little seeds of crabbiness about.  Why would you give up the opportunity to connect with new people to instead appear unapproachable? Why would you pass judgement or assume the worst in people?

Imagine that each blog is a like a person's balloon. Red, purple, perfectly round or squiggly shaped, they are all different.
And your balloon is your balloon, and when someone puts a pin hole in it, that sucks no matter who understands.

But Crabby Crabinas, Wendy Whines and Debbie Downers aren't enough to take away my Up house, and no matter who tweets passive aggressive remarks and sarcastic winky faces, I'll keep on blogging because I need my creativity fix.

I blog because there's an unfollow button for everything that is followable. Plus, it doesn't hurt to dare to stick up for yourself once in a while.

I blog to discover my feelings about a book by letting my reactions to the words appear on the screen in front of me.

There's nothing more exhilarating than watching your feelings form sentences as your fingers go crazy trying to keep up with your thoughts.

I blog because when someone tells me they read my blog, I can feel the blush rushing to my cheeks and the pride swelling in my chest about this little space I call home where I can be myself.

I blog because if something makes me smile or think or moves me, I want to share it and be part of the reason someone else is smiling too.

Pit and Peak Link UP!

Hi Guys!
I wish I could have had time to do a vlog this week, but tonight is the first night I have been home all week and didn't have time. Plus, if I still did have time, you would run screaming from your computer if this girl showed up on your screen. It's a mess. Hair is scary, bags are under the eyes and I've got that crazy look you get when you're stressed beyond belief and you haven't slept soundly in days.

And I kinda want to keep my friends around here so scaring you all with my hot mess-ness is not the way to go. :)

The Pit this week, is like  I said: I have been gone every day and night this week. I am spent. And not in a good way. This weekend, my department's biggest event is happening. We're having over 600 people for dinner for a fundraiser. It's big for us and the whole thing just sits like a big brick elephant statute on my chest all week until Saturday night, at like, 11:50 p.m. when it's all over and I am driving home. Sunday? I DON'T WANT TO MOVE.

The Peak? Probably just that this week is almost over. And it's also been fun to be a part of a lot of fun bloggy things going on! I hosted a book swap and hooked up 34 great ladies with partners and new friends, LOTS of you linked up for my Bloglovin Hop,  I'm giving away a great necklace on Monday, plus $125 cash and great gifts with Allie and her sponsors, I just signed up for a flip flop and polish swap and my BBFF Jess has a great link up idea starting! It's a good week to be a blogger, friends!

Another peak I want to share is reading this:

It's a page from The Fire Starter Sessions: A Soulful + Practical Guide to Creating Success on Your Own Terms by Danielle LePorte

And it's just really great to read. I'm learning about myself and sometimes it's great to see in writing that no matter what my aspirations are, as long as they are mine and they make me tick, that's all that matters! It puts a smile on my face every night when I read it before bed!

Happy Friday Friends!

Beadsbee Boutique Necklace GiveAWay

Happy Hump Day!

I have mentioned this before but I just wanted to share again how much blogging has saved my life in the fashion department.  I have to dress business-ish for work and struggle to add originality to outfits, 5 days a week. And like I said, fashion has never been my forte. I basically buy whatever "new arrivals" Old Navy has to offer online and call it good. Without meaning to, I've collected quite the closet full of cardigans, printed tank tops and sweaters.  I should also mention that I may as well be color blind because almost all of the above mentioned pieces are black or some shade of charcoal.

I never claimed to be a fashion blogger and will never do a post giving fashion/clothing advice. But I have learned how to spot a cute thing when I see one and you'd have to live in a blogging hole to not notice the beautiful bubble style, Anthropologie inspired necklaces that are everywhere. I love them for lots of reasons but mostly, I love them because they add so much to a simple outfit. I may have a lot of gray but I can sure make it look brighter by adding a turquoise statement necklace now!

I pine for the outfits bloggers post with bright stripes and colored skinnies.
I did buy a chambray "camping" shirt and always feel super cool when I wear it.
(I am so still a wanna be cool 7th grader at heart)

So until I get the guts and the know how to put brightly colored, multi-pattern outfits together, I decided to start out slow and spice up the outfits I already have with some bright accessories.
I scoured Etsy for hours looking for the perfect bubble necklace that said
"Hey look at me, I know what's trendy right now!"
Without being too stuffy, heavy or saying
"I really want people to think I read Vogue"
(which I do but only because a older lady from work gives me her subscriptions and I like to smell the perfume samples).

I am so excited to share what I found on Etsy: Beadsbee Boutique:

Cute right?!
And look at me, wearing a bright color!

So to celebrate my new found fashionista side, Beadsbees is helping me by giving one That's What She Read reader  their Lime Green Anthropologie  necklace!

Check out the Rafflecopter below and come back on Monday to see if you won!

a Rafflecopter giveaway

And while we are on the subject of give a ways, go visit Allie at Tales of a Twenty Something, where her sponsors and I are giving away $125 and more!

I was not paid for this review and all opinions are my own .

Literary Junkies Link Up!

Pink Heels Pink Truck
Today I am linking up with Taylor and Lesley for the monthly Literary Junkies! This is my favorite link up because the questions are all book related and I always love reading everyone else's answers and usually end up adding tons of great books to my reading list!

1. What are you currently reading? Tell us about it.

It's called the Fire Starter Sessions by Danielle LaPorte.
It's basically a wake up call and inspiration to get on the band wagon of being yourself and taking steps to achieve goals and the life you want. It's a major kick in my self esteem's ass and I need it! LaPorte also mixes her own stories about how she's risen to success. It's part self-awakening and memoir. I am hooked. I've never latched on and finished a "Self help" type book but I really love this one!

I am also reading Margaret from Maine by Joseph Monninger for a Novel Escapes Review!
It's an interesting love story about a woman whose husband is in an vegetative state after being wounded in war and her journey to have a life for herself and their young son. It's very good so far! I will share a link to the review once it's posted!

Margaret from Maine: A Novel

2. Recommend a book that has changed your perspective on life.

Right now, I am going to answer this with the same book as above! It's just really nice to read about how kick ass you can be if you move in the direction that your heart naturally goes.
Here's just one page that really spoke to me last night:

The words in this book are empowering, encouraging and funny.
Chapter One? Mojo. (enough said)

 3. What book do you recommend the most to people?

I am still recommending Gone Girl to anyone who hasn't read it. I know, it's probably beating a dead horse because it's been in the news, everyone is reading it... but this isn't just another Fifty Shades fad. It's real and it's frickin' good.

 4. What are the top 3 books on your "to-read" list?
Saturday Night Widows: The Adventures of Six Friends Remaking Their Lives

The Uncoupling

Enough About Love

 5. What do you "do" while reading? (i.e. listen to music, eat) Any weird reading habits?
I doubt if this is weird but I have to have almost perfect silence to read. I can't concentrate if there is a lot of noise going on around me.  If it's just background noise like a tv or people talking quietly among  themselves, then I can handle it but if it's loud or people are asking me questions, I just have to give up.

My favorite time to read is in bed or on the treadmill. There's really no other times when I am alone to read. It's to the point now that I almost HAVE to read in order to get to sleep at night. If I don't read, I feel lost. (Unless I've had some wine. Then sleeping is nooooo problemo! )

It's Friday Ya'll

And I know what mine and probably EVERY ONE else's pit was this week:

Source: Sherrie on Pinterest

I literally woke up on Monday (and Tuesday)
feeling like death was knocking on my door.
Everyone was walking around on Monday in a sleep deprived funk. So I fit right it, thank God.

someecards.com - Most people recover from deadly diseases better than I recover from daylight savings.

The daycare worker called me at work on Monday morning and told me Reese was having a meltdown
I had to get on the phone with my poor 2 1/2 year old and talk her off a ledge.
Poor thing was a zombie!
someecards.com - Daylight Savings Time - Proudly giving parents the finger since...FOREVER.

My Peak is my new haircut!
What is it about a new do that makes you feel like you're in a Pantene commercial?
How many  takes do you think it takes for them to get the hair to fall so perfectly?

someecards.com - Just got a haircut if anyone wants to start a serious long term relationship.

Never mind that it took 4 and a half hours.
I get to sit, chat, read, tweet and get my head massaged.
It's amazing what new layers and some highlights can do for me!

someecards.com - So I got me a haircut... Bitches love haircuts

So that's really all I have folks, short and sweet.

Another peak of this week is that I have JACK crap planned this weekend, other than indulging in some Reubens! I love celebrating holidays that I have no business celebrating due to my lack of authentic heritage.

Head over to Allie's Tales of a Twenty Something and check out her in post feature about me, PLUS I hear she drunk vlog'd. Which is why she's awesome.

Say to Megan!
